Pioneering the Future of Photonics: PhotonHub Scaling Club Selected Companies Announced

In conjunction with today’s Tech Tour Photonics gathering in Brussels, Tech Tour and PhotonHub Europe are excited to announce the selected companies for the PhotonHub Scaling Club, an exclusive initiative designed to accelerate the growth of Europe’s most promising photonics scale-ups. This programme offers strategic investment opportunities, expert mentoring, and co-funding support to companies driving innovation in advanced digital and communication solutions. The initiative’s supporting expert mentors and technical partners are part of the onsite kick-off meeting in Brussels.

The PhotonHub Scaling Club enhances funding and business development by providing strategic guidance to help companies scale and achieve key valuation inflexion milestones. Through in-person and online roadshows, enrolled companies connect with cornerstone investors, prospective partners, and industry leaders, supporting their scaling potential and market reach. This initiative empowers Europe’s top photonics innovators to lead in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Meet the Selected Companies

Alcyon Photonics provides high performance photonics engines to suppport critical demand applications in the fields of communications and sensing. Alcyon plans to combine its IP portfolio and own SWG design know-how to build new optical engines that enable scalation and unlocks of further industries: Telecom, Lidar, BioSensor… Alcyon is translates into commercial IP (Building Block designs) the Subwavelength Grating (SWG) design know-how developed by leading researcher and partner Aitor Villafranca. Alcyon’s SWG Building Block library empowers customers circuit designs with beyond State-of-the-Art high performance and new functionalities, such as integrated polarization management. 

Aircision‘s mission is to close the gap between the unconnected and connected. The company provides a Free Space Optics communication system based on disruptive line-of-sight laser technology that can increase the network connectivity in areas where expansion is problematic or systems need to deployed quickly. Founded in 2019 in the HighTechXL Venture Builder, Aircision is a TNO Spinoff.

Iloomina is an integrated photonic startup company that spun off from Chalmers University of Technology. It was co-founded by Prof. Victor Torres-Company, Dr. Marcello Girardi, Dr. Oskar B. Helgason, and later also Dr. Alexander Grabowski.
