News Title

In the fast-paced world of technology startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), one factor often overlooked, yet significantly impacting business growth, is the intellectual property (IP) strategy. Your intellectual assets, including inventions and know-how, not only shape your company's value and competitive edge but also directly influence how you attract investors.

To shed light on this crucial topic, we invite you to the upcoming online High-Growth Technology Business (HTB) forums. These online events, organised by the European Patent Office (EPO) in cooperation with the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI), are far from dry presentations on patent application processes. Instead, they offer fascinating case studies by founders and CEOs, followed by panel discussions with international experts in the field.

These sessions aim to inspire you to strengthen your IP strategy in a practical way. Each forum includes a dedicated one-hour live case study, followed by an optional “meet-the-speakers” session.

A glimpse into the agenda

The HTB forums for 2023 are set to cover a range of topics, including software and patents in MedTech, build-to-sell strategies, and IP strategy and management. Each forum is tailored for business decision-makers, investors, and IP professionals in startups and SMEs, focusing on the role of IP rights to enhance business growth.

The  Software and Patents in Medtech forum is intended to help decision-makers in startups and SMEs better understand how digital patents and IP plans can contribute to the success of their business. This online event will delve into the patentability of software-related inventions and underscore the role of patents and other forms of IP as strategic tools and business drivers for high-growth businesses. The seminar will showcase a case study from Atlantic Therapeutics, a company that emerged from years of collaborative research between academia and industry. Their innovative technologies and strong patent portfolio have enabled them to raise investments, secure regulatory approval, and accelerate international expansion.

The Build-to-Sell forum caters to decision-makers planning or required to sell their business. It offers a long-term perspective on maximising value at the exit, focusing on three key intellectual assets: technology, brand, and operational excellence. It features the case study of Dr. Ghassan Kassab, Founder and CEO of 3DT Holdings and the California Medical Innovations Institute. With 300+ issued and pending patents and 600+ publications/proceedings to his name, Ghassan will share his experience in building an innovation engine in the medical field.

The IP Strategy and Management forum is a comprehensive workshop that underlines the significance of IP management in corporate business strategy, demonstrating through intriguing case studies how effective intellectual property decisions can create value and significantly influence business performance, particularly in high-growth technology companies. A highlight of this event is the case study presented by Thomas Nieraad, Co-founder and Board Chair of Connect One Digital AG. Nieraad, a hands-on entrepreneur with extensive global experience. He will share how his company, a provider of IoT product-based customer interactions, develops digital solutions that seamlessly connect consumers and businesses in real time. By transforming everyday objects into multidimensionally configurable tools linked to any digital service, the company enhances customer interactions, deepens customer insights, and ultimately improves business performance. This forum would be highly beneficial for those seeking to understand the power of IP in driving business growth.
